Balangir: Setting aside political differences, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi and senior Congress leader Narasingha Mishra held a closed-door meeting at the Circuit House in Balangir on Friday, focusing on key development issues concerning the district.
Mishra, a former minister, arrived at the venue with his supporters during the Chief Minister’s tour programme. The meeting, which lasted around 30 minutes, took place in a designated room, with the Chief Minister reportedly aware of Mishra’s visit in advance.
Speaking to mediapersons after the discussion, Mishra said he raised a range of issues related to infrastructure, education, and public welfare. Among the demands highlighted were the construction of a barrage on the Sonagad river at Deogaon, the Sikuan barrage, and two bridges at Deogaon and Jarasingha.
He also flagged long-pending concerns including the revival of the Deogaon Sugar Mill, a proposal to establish a university instead of an agricultural college in Balangir, and the need for appointment of adequate teaching and non-teaching staff at Rajendra University.
Further, Mishra drew attention to issues concerning the Women’s College, rehabilitation challenges faced by displaced persons of the Lower Suktel project, improvement of the Laxmijor drain, and the acute drinking water shortage in the region.
Describing the interaction as constructive, the veteran leader said he also discussed several civic problems affecting Balangir town and sought timely intervention from the state government.
