Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Friday emphasised that a government job is not merely a source of livelihood but a unique opportunity to serve the common people. He made this remark while distributing appointment letters to newly recruited candidates at the 15th State Level Job Fair held at Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar.

A total of 4,623 candidates received appointment letters from seven different departments during the event. The School and Mass Education Department received the highest number of appointments with 4,113 candidates. This was followed by the Forest, Environment and Climate Change Department with 154 appointments, Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) Department with 143, Steel and Mines Department with 77, Fisheries and Animal Resources Development Department with 70, Panchayati Raj and Drinking Water Department with 52, and Skill Development and Technical Education Department with 14 appointments.

While congratulating the newly appointed officers and staff, Chief Minister Majhi said that government officials and employees are the real face of the government in the administrative system. He added that the main objective of everyone should be to ensure that government facilities reach the last person in society. “The common people are now feeling that this is truly a government of the people. If you carry forward this spirit, the dignity of government service will be maintained and you will earn the trust of the people,” he stated.

Highlighting the employment achievements of the state, the Chief Minister informed that since June 2024, the government has provided 44,082 government jobs and 92,000 private sector jobs, benefiting more than 1.36 lakh youths in total.

Expressing confidence in the new recruits, Majhi urged them to discharge their duties with full dedication, competence, integrity and a sense of responsibility for the greater interest of the state. He gave them five important suggestions to follow in their service on this occasion.

First, they must always stay away from corruption as the government follows a zero-tolerance policy against it.

Second, in a democracy, the people are supreme and their voice is the voice of God. Therefore, they should listen to the grievances of the people with compassion and try to resolve them.

Third, personal ideological views should not become an obstacle while performing official duties; they must work according to the government’s policy direction.

Fourth, they should complete all tasks within the stipulated time frame. Fifth, they must maintain courteous and dignified behaviour and communication in the workplace, failing which both they and the government could suffer reputational damage.

At the end of his address, the Chief Minister wished the newly appointed candidates a bright future and asked them to make zero tolerance towards corruption and respectful behaviour towards women an integral part of their work culture.

Union Minister for Tribal Affairs, Jual Oram, who attended the programme as the chief guest, congratulated the recruits and said that under the leadership of Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, widespread employment opportunities are being created for the youth of Odisha. He advised the young officers to treat public service as the highest profession and move forward in their careers with dedication.

Fisheries and Animal Resources Development and MSME Minister Gokulananda Mallik said that this appointment is not just a position but a responsibility towards public service, which will create a new identity for them from today onwards.

Forest, Environment and Climate Change Minister Ganesh Ram Singh Khuntia described the recruitment as a great responsibility to serve the 4.5 crore people of the state.

School and Mass Education Minister Nityananda Gond highlighted that continuous recruitment fairs are being organised due to the efforts of the Chief Minister, which is steadily strengthening the government’s capacity and power. Several newly appointed candidates also spoke on the occasion. Visually impaired Assistant Industry Officer Bikash Ranjan Padhi from the MSME Department, Assistant Conservator of Forests Abhishek Pradhan, Trained Graduate Teacher Anjali Munda from the School and Mass Education Department, and Mining Officer Tapaswini Priyadarshini from the Steel and Mines Department expressed their gratitude to the Chief Minister for providing transparent and fair job opportunities to the youth of Odisha.

The programme was also attended by Panchayati Raj and Drinking Water Minister Ravi Narayan Naik and Industries and Skill Development Minister Sampad Chandra Swain, among others.

School and Mass Education Commissioner-cum-Secretary Dr N. Tirumala Naik welcomed the gathering while MSME Commissioner-cum-Secretary Rashmita Panda proposed the vote of thanks.
