Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, his predecessor Naveen Patnaik, and other prominent leaders extended heartfelt Christmas greetings to the people of the state and the nation on Wednesday.

“Merry Christmas! May your day be overflowing with joy, love, and happiness,” CM Majhi conveyed in his message.

Former Chief Minister and Leader of the Opposition Naveen Patnaik, and other leaders also extended greetings for Christmas celebrations.

Naveen Patnaik also shared his wishes in a video message, saying, “I wish the Christian brothers and sisters of Odisha a Merry Christmas. May this occasion bring joy and harmony to all.” Patnaik visited churches in Satya Nagar and Sachivalaya Marg, actively participating in the celebrations.

Odisha Deputy Chief Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo also shared his Christmas greetings on his X account. “May the joyous spirit of Christmas fill hearts with love, harmony, and hope. Let us celebrate the season with compassion, unity, and the promise of a brighter tomorrow. Wishing everyone a Merry Christmas full of blessings and cheer!” he wrote.

Across the state, members of the Christian community gathered in churches to celebrate with midnight prayers, masses, and carols. Districts such as Gajapati, Kandhamal, Sundargarh, and Rayagada, which have a significant Christian population, saw vibrant observances of the festival.

However, Christmas celebrations in coastal Odisha were dampened by persistent rainfall caused by a low-pressure system. Rainfall began on Tuesday, disrupting outdoor festivities and creating overcast conditions across many areas.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted that the rainfall would continue for another 24 hours, with moderate to heavy rainfall expected in southern parts of the state. Conditions are forecasted to improve by December 26.

Despite the rain, the Christmas spirit endured, with celebrations emphasizing unity, compassion, and hope for brighter days ahead.
