Bhubaneswar: In response to the ongoing global oil crisis triggered by the volatile situation in West Asia, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has appealed to citizens across the country to reduce unnecessary expenditure, particularly on petrol and diesel.
Welcoming the Prime Minister’s call, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Wednesday announced concrete steps to lead by example. The Chief Minister has reduced the number of vehicles in his official carcade by half with immediate effect.
Emphasizing the need for collective responsibility, CM Majhi appealed to the people of Odisha to minimize the use of personal vehicles and opt for public transport as much as possible. Vehicles should be used only when absolutely necessary. Unnecessary travel must be avoided, he said.
The Chief Minister further advised citizens to refrain from extravagant spending. Avoid unnecessary purchase of gold and postpone non-essential foreign trips, he added.
The measures come as rising crude oil prices have put pressure on the economy and household budgets across India.
