Bhubaneswar: In a significant boost to regional infrastructure and public welfare, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi visited Subarnapur district today and inaugurated and laid the foundation stones for 56 public welfare projects worth over ₹323 crore.
According to an official press release, during a public event held in the district, the Chief Minister formally inaugurated 11 projects valued at ₹80 crore and laid the foundation stone for 45 others worth ₹244 crore. These projects span key sectors including road construction, irrigation, bridge building, healthcare, mega lift irrigation schemes, and hostel infrastructure.
A major highlight of the announcements was the proposal to construct four in-stream storage (ISS) structures on the Mahanadi River. These will be located at Godhaneswar and Khairamal in Birmaharajpur block, and at Harihara Jor and Surubali in Ulunda and Birmaharajpur blocks respectively. These structures are expected to enhance water conservation and irrigation facilities in the region.
Addressing a large gathering, Chief Minister Majhi described Subarnapur as a land of rich cultural, historical, and spiritual legacy. Recalling the contributions of Saint Poet Bhima Bhoi, he praised the district’s enduring influence on Odisha’s literary and cultural identity. He also highlighted Subarnapur’s excellence in weaving and handicrafts, which have brought acclaim to the state.
“Our government stands by its promises,” said the Chief Minister. “Within a year of taking office, we have fulfilled 11 of the 21 commitments made to the people. We acted swiftly from the first 24 hours in power to implement decisions in the public interest.”
He pointed out that a historic step had been taken by including unseasonal crop loss under the relief code, a move that would support farmers during climate-induced agricultural distress.
Majhi envisioned a transformed Subarnapur, pledging to make it a “golden land” through sustained development. He urged citizens to offer suggestions for the district’s progress and assured them of full government support. “The rivers of Subarnapur will no longer go to waste; they will be harnessed for public good,” he stated.
During the event, the Chief Minister also handed over work orders and financial assistance to beneficiaries under various government welfare schemes, reinforcing his government’s emphasis on inclusive governance.
Joining him on stage, Bolangir MP Sangeeta Kumari Singh Deo hailed the Chief Minister’s leadership, noting that Odisha had entered a new phase of growth. She emphasized that the Central government, under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, is fully backing Odisha’s advancement in highways and railways.
Also present were Sonepur MLA Niranjan Pujari, Kantamal MLA Kahnei Dang, Kantabanji MLA Laxman Bag, and Birmaharajpur MLA Raghunath Jagadala, who delivered the welcome address. District Collector Anya Das extended the vote of thanks.
