Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today laid the foundation stone for the globally-acclaimed textile company, Welspun Textile complex at Choudwar in Cuttack.
On the occasion, the Chief Minister said that it is a very happiest day for Choudwar as it is going to regain its past glory. In the early fifties, Biju Babu had laid the foundation for industrial development in Choudwar. Today, history was re-written for Choudwar in Cuttack district in the industrial sector, he added.
Notably, Welspun Group is a famous textile manufacturing company in the world. It will set up an integrated textile manufacturing facility and warehousing complex at Choudwar at a cost of Rs 3,050 crore. The industry will create 10,000 employment opportunities and huge business opportunities for small and medium industries.
During the 2022 Make-In-Odisha programme, a team on behalf of the State Industries Department and IPICOL, Chairman of Welspun Group B.K. Goenka was proposed to establish the industry in Odisha. The group agreed to set up industries in Odisha after being convinced about the industrial policy and favorable environment in the State.
On this occasion, the Chief Minister said that the cotton farmers of Kalahandi, Bolangir, Rayagada and Gajapati will also benefit from the unit. Stating that there are many opportunities for women in the textile industry, Patnaik said that their skills will be developed, which would bring employment opportunities for them.
Stating that Welspun Group is a well-known and famous textile industry all over the world, the Chief Minister said that its products are exported to rich countries like Europe, and America. The company will create a new identity for the State in terms of investment and employment.
The CM thanked Welspun Group Chairman B.K Goenka for investing in Odisha and assured all support for the success of the industry.
Patnaik expressed that Welspun Group’s partnership will create a new chapter in the development journey of Odisha and the State will be famous worldwide as an industrially rich state.
Goenka said that Odisha witnessed rapid progress in the last 20 years. It has become possible due to the hard work of the Chief Minister. Highlighting the 5T initiative of the State government, Goenka said that the government schools in Odisha have become better than the private ones.
Highlighting the basis of industrial development in Odisha, he elaborated on Biju Babu’s efforts in this regard.
He promised to uplift the life of cotton farmers in the State and contribute to further improve the industrial scenario of Odisha. Goenka informed that this project will provide 10,000 direct and 20,000 indirect employment.
Attending the program, Industries Minister Pratap Deb said that Choudwar is the industrial city of Odisha, which once again marched on the path of development. Deb said that the industry will generate direct and indirect employment as well as massive self-employment.
Attending the program, 5T and Nabin Odisha Chairman Kartik Pandian exchanged views with the public and discussed the increased allowance of various government schemes. He made people aware of the increase in allowances in Madhubabu Pension, Mamata, LAccMI, and Kalakar Sahayata Yojana. Pandian informed that the students will get Nua O scholarship by February 25.
MLA Debi Prasad Mishra, and MLA Souvik Biswal Biswal addressed the program while Industries Secretary Hemant Sharma proposed vote of thanks.
