Bhubaneswar: A goods train transporting coal from Palasa to Bhubaneswar caught fire shortly after crossing Khallikote railway station on Friday.
According to reports, the fire broke out just minutes after the train passed Khallikote. The blaze is suspected to have been triggered by the soaring temperatures, which have gripped several parts of the state over the past few days.
Alert locals at Khallikote station noticed smoke emanating from the wagons and promptly informed railway officials.
The station authorities at Khallikote relayed the information to their counterparts at Balugaon railway station.
Following the alert, fire services were immediately mobilised. Fire personnel managed to contain the flames once the train reached Balugaon station in Khurda district.
No casualties or injuries have been reported so far. An investigation has been initiated to ascertain the exact cause of the fire.
