Subarnapur: In a major crackdown, Subalaya police on Wednesday seized over 2,000 bottles of codeine cough syrup, with an estimated market value of Rs 10 lakh, from Durdura village under Subarnapur district. Two people have been detained in connection with the seizure.
According to police, the Subalaya police team, while on routine patrol, stopped an SUV at Durdura village that was coming from Redhakhol to Subarnapur. During the inspection, police found 13 boxes containing more than 2,000 bottles of codeine syrup. The driver of the vehicle managed to flee the scene, leaving the SUV behind.
“The two detained persons were providing escort to the vehicle. Further investigation is underway to trace the fleeing driver and uncover the source of the consignment,” said a police official.
