College Boy Drowns In Bid To Save Classmate From Stone Quarry Pit In Khurdha

Khurdha: In a tragic incident, a college boy drowned in a stone quarry pit that is filled with water while trying to save a female classmate from the water body at Tapanga in Khurdha district on Friday.

The deceased, Asutosh Behera was a student of the college in Salipur area of Cuttack.

The incident took place when the girl was shooting reels and fell into the pit accidentally. In a bid to save her, Asutosh jumped into the water body.

However, the girl was rescued from the deep water. But, Asutosh drowned in the pit.

Fellow friends who accompanied them to the scenic destination informed to Khurdha Sadar police who rushed to the spot with the fire brigade team.

After an hour-long search, the fire department personnel fished out the body of Asutosh.

Police seized the body for post-mortem and detained others for questioning.

Notably, the district administration has declared the area a danger zone after a series of similar incidents took place in the past. Despite the administration’s caution, youngsters are visiting the place to enjoy the scenic beauty of the hill.
