Bhubaneswar: In a heart-wrenching incident, a college girl died on the spot after being hit by a tractor at Mahabala Chowk, under the Baliapal Police Station limits of Balasore district, on Tuesday.

The deceased girl has been identified as Rasmita Pradhan of Badakholia village in Baliapal Tehsil. Rasmita was studying at Durga Prasanna (Junior) Mahavidyalaya in Langaleswar.

According to reports, Rasmita was cycling to her college when she was hit by a speeding tractor from behind. Locals rushed Rasmita to the nearest hospital, where doctors declared her dead.

Enraged by the accident, locals and students intercepted the tractor and tied up the driver.

Students staged a protest and blocked the main road, demanding justice for the deceased girl.

Upon receiving information, the police arrived at the accident spot, pacified the angry students, and arrested the accused driver.

The roadblock was removed after the district administration assured fair compensation for Rasmita’s family members.

Rasmita’s body has been sent for an autopsy for further investigation.
