Bhubaneswar: The Central Election Committee of the Congress on Tuesday nominated Bishwa Bhusan Das as its candidate from the Kakatpur Assembly constituency in Odisha.
Das joined the Congress after he was denied a ticket by the BJP.
Worth mentioning, Das had contested though unsuccessfully from Kakatpur as a Congress candidate in 2009 and 2019. In 2014 he supported Rabi Sethi as a Congress candidate. The Congress had lost the elections from Kakatpur in 2009, 2014, and 2019.
Das had recently joined the BJP with the hope of getting a ticket to contest from Kakatpur.
However, Das was dejected after the BJP announced Baidhar Mallik as its candidate from Kakatpur. A few days back Das rejoined the Congress.
While the BJD has fielded Minister Tusharkanti Behera as its candidate from Kakatpur, the BJP has fielded Baidhar Mallik.
