Bhubaneswar: Commissionerate Police arrested a police constable for allegedly trying to sexually assault a woman sanitation worker near the office of the Reserve Inspector of Cuttack Rural Police.
As per the complaint, the woman was working in the area when the accused constable approached her and allegedly tried to assault her. When she resisted, screamed for help and alerted other workers nearby, the constable allegedly bet her.
Hearing her cries, fellow sanitation workers rushed in, caught the accused and thrashed him before police arrived. The victim, later filed a formal complaint alleging attempted rape, misconduct and assault.
A team from Cantonment police station reached the spot on getting information and took the constable into custody.
Police have registered a case and arrested the accused constable. He is being interrogated. Further probe is on.
