Bhubaneswar: A tragic accident at the Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) claimed the life of a contract worker on Sunday. Prakash Swain, a contract employee working at the Canning Plant (CP-2), fell from a height of approximately 30 feet while performing cleaning work.
According to preliminary information, Swain was cleaning sickle sheets when he lost balance and fell. He was immediately rescued by fellow workers and rushed to the plant’s primary hospital. He was later shifted to Ispat General Hospital (IGH), where doctors declared him brought dead.
The deceased’s body has been recovered and kept in the hospital morgue for post-mortem and further formalities.
In response to the incident, RSP management has taken prompt action. Two RSP employees have been suspended for alleged negligence. A high-level team has also been constituted to investigate the cause of the accident and assess safety lapses, if any.
Senior RSP officials expressed condolences to the bereaved family and assured that all necessary support would be provided.
