Bhubaneswar: A Vigilance Court in Phulbani convicted and awarded three years rigorous imprisonment (RI) to a Co-operative Inspector in Kandhamal district in a bribery case.
According to an official press release, Special Judge, Vigilance, Phulbani on Tuesday convicted and sentenced Sitesh Ranjan Das, Ex-Co-operative Inspector of Baliguda, who is currently posted as Co-operative Inspector, Phulbani in Kandhamal district to undergo rigorous imprisonment for a period of 3 years.
In addition to that the court also imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 on convict Das and in default of payment of fine, to undergo further rigorous imprisonment for a period of 3 months more for the offence under section 7 of the PC Amendment Act, 2018.
Das was charge sheeted by Odisha Vigilance under section 7 of the PC Amendment Act, 2018 for demanding and accepting bribe Rs 15,000 from a complainant for renewal of allotment of 2 nos. of shops of RCMS, Raikia in his favour.
Odisha Vigilance will now move the competent authority for dismissal of Das, Co-operative Inspector Phulbani from service following his conviction.
