Baripada (Mayurbhanj): A couple was critically injured near Titia Chhak on the Udala-Baripada road in Mayurbhanj district on Sunday evening when a vehicle allegedly linked to Saraskana BJP MLA Bhadav Hansdah collided with their two-wheeler.
The couple are residents of Khunta village.
According to reports, they were returning home from the weekly village market on their two-wheeler when a speeding Scorpio, reportedly connected to the MLA, struck them and dragged the vehicle for several meters. The vehicle finally stopped after crashing into a roadside tree.
Eyewitnesses said that the MLA and the driver fled the scene immediately after the accident. The vehicle was reportedly coming from Baripada. Locals rushed the critically injured couple to PRM Medical College and Hospital.
Angered by the incident, residents blocked the Udala-Baripada road and set tires on fire, demanding justice.
Upon receiving the information, Khunta police personnel reached the spot and were attempting to pacify the protesters at the time of reporting.
