Nuapada: In a tragic incident, a couple died of electrocution on Tuesday while irrigating their field by drawing water from the National Adaptation Fund for Climate Change (NAFCC) check dam on Kharkhara nullah using an electric pump at Parkod village under Jonk police limits in Nuapada district today.
The deceased persons have been identified as Rameswar Rout (37) and his wife Bimala Rout (35).
According to reports, Rameswar and Bimala of Parkod village were irrigating their paddy field by drawing water from the NFCC check dam using an electric pump. Rameswar was the first to receive an electric shock. Seeing her husband in distress Bimala rushed to save him and in the process received electric shock.
Villagers saw their bodies floating in the check dam. They were rescued after the power supply was disconnected and rushed to the Community Health Centre (CHC) at Khariar Road.
However, they were declared dead by the doctors at the CHC.
