Bhubaneswar: Bhubaneswar-Cuttack Commissioner of Police (CP) Dr Suresh Dev Datta Singh on Saturday visited flood-hit Tinkipada village under Pampalo Gram Panchayat in Balipatna block of Khordha district and extended relief assistance to residents affected by the flooding.
During his visit, Singh interacted with the flood-affected villagers and took stock of the problems they were facing. Several women apprised the Commissioner of the difficulties they had experienced during the floods.
The villagers also highlighted the lack of adequate medical facilities in the area. Singh assured them of support and said the administration was responsible for providing relief to people affected by natural calamities.
“This is not relief. The administration is providing the relief, and we are only a medium to stand with you during your difficult times,” Singh said.
Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (ADCP) Manas Ranjan Garnaik said the Commissioner, along with members of the Red Cross, visited Tinkipada to extend support to people affected by the floods.
“During our interaction with the women of the village, we came to know that there is no medical facility available here. We are, therefore, planning to organise a medical camp in the village,” Garnaik said.
Residents welcomed the Commissioner’s visit and appreciated the assistance extended to the flood-affected families.
A resident of Tinkipada said the village faces flooding almost every year as water from the Dhanua River enters the area, affecting residents and disrupting normal life.
“The Commissioner of Police coming to our village and helping the affected people is a good thing for us. Every year, our village is affected by floods because of the Dhanua River water. We are happy that the Commissioner came here and extended support to us,” the resident said.
The resident also said the Commissioner had invited a girl from the village to sing at the Independence Day celebration in Bhubaneswar.
