Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Crime Branch has formally commenced a detailed investigation into the lynching of GRP constable Soumya Ranjan in Balianta, Bhubaneswar.
A Crime Branch team, led by SP Anirudh Routaray, reached Balianta police station on Sunday as part of the first phase of the probe. The team received documents of the case from the investigating officer. SP Routaray stated that the investigation would be strictly fact-based and evidence-driven.
Speaking on the case, Crime Branch DIG B Gangadhar informed about the formation of two dedicated teams, each comprising 10 officers. The teams include experts from scientific and cyber wings, along with dog squads to assist in the investigation.
The probe will thoroughly examine multiple aspects, including allegations of sexual assault, the lynching incident itself, and possible police negligence. The DIG further stated that the arrested accused would be brought under Crime Branch remand for sustained interrogation.
The swift takeover of the sensitive case by the Crime Branch reflects the seriousness with which the state police are treating the matter. Further updates are awaited as the investigation progresses.
