Crime Syndicate Busted In Bhubaneswar; 4 Arrested, Sophisticated Firearms, Ammunition Seized

Bhubaneswar: In its ongoing drive against organised crime, Commissionerate Police in Bhubaneswar have arrested a gang of four persons who were running a crime syndicate and have seized semi-automatic and automatic firearms and live ammunition from their possession in Kalinga Vihar area under Tamando police limits of the city on Sunday.

“Tamando police and Special Squad first nabbed Sanjaya Khuntia alias Bapuni (34), a resident of Khordha. An automatic 9 mm carbine which is a prohibited weapon and some ammunition were recovered from his possession. Following his interrogation, Tamando police and Special Squad nabbed Shiva Kumar Nali (47), Bata Krishna Pani (50) and Prakash Routray (44) all residents of Khordha,” informed Bhubaneswar DCP Prateek Singh.

The DCP said that a total of one 9mm automatic carbine, two magazines of the carbine, twelve 9mm live ammunition, two 7.65mm semi-automatic pistols, two 7.65mm magazines of the pistols, eight 7.65mm live ammunition, seven mobile phones, one WagonR car, one Creta car and Swift car were seized from their possession.

The accused persons have a previous history of involvement in heinous crimes like murder, running of illegal laterite, black granite stone quarry and sand quarries, etc., the police said.
