Cuttack: In response to recent disturbances in Cuttack, senior police and administrative officials today assessed the situation and observed the city, which was under a 36-hour curfew. The situation will be reviewed after 10 am tomorrow, and a decision will be taken on whether to extend the curfew or not.

According to Police Commissioner S Devdutta Singh, “If normalcy continues, there would be no need to extend the curfew.” Eight individuals have been arrested in connection with the unrest, and three cases have been registered against them. The police are reviewing CCTV footage and video recordings to identify and apprehend more rioters. Internet services have been suspended for the next 24 hours to prevent the spread of misinformation and maintain public order.

The Police Commissioner assured that the situation is currently normal and peaceful, with no reports of untoward incidents or signs of violence. “We have received so many calls from the public that they are feeling peaceful,” Singh added. Central RDC Guha Poonam Tapas Kumar and Police Commissioner Singh are jointly monitoring the situation, with adequate deployment of forces in place. “We are doing everything to ensure public peace and tranquillity,” the RDC said.

The administration has warned that strict action will be taken against anyone attempting to create disturbances or violate the law during the curfew. Those behind the recent violence will be brought to book, and the instigators will face strict action.
