Bhubaneswar: Prices of essential commodities have seen a sharp rise in Bhubaneswar and adjoining areas in view of the impending Cyclone Dana which is expected to make landfall between Bhitarkanika National Forest and Dhamra Port between Thursday night and Friday morning.
After receiving complaints about the drastic increase in the prices of essential commodities, especially vegetables, the Consumer Welfare Department has issued a toll-free number for the consumers to lodge complaints against black marketers and unscrupulous traders. The toll-free number issued by the Food Supply and Consumer Welfare Department is 0674-2396227.
Consumers can register their complaints on this toll-free number, Food Supply and Consumer Welfare Minister Krishna Chandra Patra said.
The minister said that action will be taken against the traders as per the complaint. In addition, a central unit has been set up to address the grievances of the people. The department is vigilant to ensure that various essential items reach the consumers.
Since the news of the arrival of Cyclone Dana spread, vegetable prices are skyrocketing. Potatoes have touched Rs 50, while onions are being sold for Rs 80, hitting the consumers hard.
