Bhubaneswar: A cyclonic circulation is brewing in the Bay of Bengal and it is likely to develop into a low-pressure area by Friday, bringing more rains to several parts of Odisha.
According to the weather office, a cyclonic circulation has formed over south-eastern Bangladesh. Gradually it will move towards west-northwest direction resulting in a low-pressure area near West Bengal and Odisha coast by October 4.
However, India Meteorological Department (IMD) Director-General Mrutyunjaya Mohapatra assured that there is no fear of a cyclone in Odisha as of now. Nevertheless, the IMD has advised fishermen and coastal residents to remain alert, as the low-pressure system may bring variable weather conditions.
On the other hand, the IMD has issued a yellow alert for rain accompanied by thunder and lightning in 10 Odisha districts on Thursday. The IMD has predicted lightning and thundershowers in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Angul and Dhenkanal districts on Thursday.
Rain and thunderstorms accompanied by lightning may affect several areas of Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Angul and Dhenkanal along with coastal Odisha on Friday.
Overall, the weather will remain mainly dry for the next three days but some places may experience light to moderate rain. There is a likelihood of increased rainfall from October 8.
