Bhubaneswar: There is no likelihood of respite from the sizzling heatwave prevailing across Odisha for the last two days as the regional center of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) in Bhubaneswar has predicted that the day temperatures (maximum temperature) may increase by 2°C to 4°C at several places in the state during the next two days.
At the same time, humidity levels will be higher compared to the last few days making life uneasy, the weather office has predicted. Hot and humid weather conditions are very likely to prevail in most places in the state till May 31. With the strong summer currents flowing in from the west, humidity levels in Paradip and Gopalpur have already touched 79 per cent.
The weather office has predicted heatwave conditions at one or two places in Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Bolangir, and Nuapada districts on Wednesday and Thursday.
However, there is a possibility of intermittent rains in some parts of the state. The weather office has said that some places in Odisha may even experience lightning and thunderstorms on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, the southwest monsoon is likely to touch the Indian mainland between May 31 and June 1, particularly in Kerala. The country is likely to experience an above-normal monsoon this year with 106 per cent rainfall, the IMD predicted.
