Bhubaneswar: The deep depression over the west-central Bay of Bengal is likely to intensify into a cyclone on Friday (November 17), but it will have no direct impact on Odisha as it started changing its direction to north northeastwards.
“The deep depression will further intensify into a cyclone by November 17. But, it has no direct impact on Odisha as it recurved from west-central Bay of Bengal to north-northeastwards,” Weather scientist Umashankar Dash of the Regional Meteorological Centre, Bhubaneswar said at a press briefing.
There will be no big change in temperature in the next three-four days, he added.
The phenomenon will trigger light to moderate rain in coastal districts. Very heavy rain is likely to occur in Kendrapara and Jagatsinghpur. A yellow warning has been issued to these two districts, he added.
Sea conditions will remain phenomenal till November 18. Fishermen should stay away from the deep sea during the period, Dash said.
Thunderstorms will prevail in twin city-Bhubaneswar and Cuttack on Thursday and Friday.
Under the influence of the depression, some coastal parts experienced light to moderate downpours in the last 24 hours. Paradip has recorded a maximum 6.9 mm rainfall. The port town also witnessed light rain in the morning on Thursday, the Met official said.
