Dhenkanal: In a major crackdown on illegal mining activities, Dhenkanal Police conducted a special drive across the district and seized two sand-laden tractors in the early hours of Tuesday.
Two persons were detained after they allegedly launched a murderous attack on police personnel by pelting stones in an attempt to snatch the seized vehicles.Acting on specific information, the Inspector-in-Charge (IIC) of Bhuban Police Station along with his team raided village Murdanga and intercepted two tractors illegally transporting sand.
While the police team was taking the seized tractors to the police station, the owner of one tractor, identified as Debasish Sahoo, and the driver Bharat Chandra Das — both residents of Bartanda under Sukinda Police Station in Jajpur district — suddenly attacked the police team by throwing stones.
The duo also attempted to forcibly take away the seized tractors.The police personnel successfully overpowered and detained both accused persons.Following the incident, a raid was conducted under the leadership of SDPO, Kamakhyanagar at the premises of the accused persons, where a large quantity of illegally stored sand (equivalent to around 30 tractor loads) and one scooter were recovered.
A separate case has also been registered at Sukinda Police Station on the complaint of Mining Department officials of Jajpur district against Debasish Sahoo for illegal storage of sand.
A case has been registered at Bhuban Police Station vide PS Case No. 250 dated 19.05.2026 under Sections 303(2), 120(6)(2), 296, 121(1), 221, 109(1), 351(3), 3(5) of BNS read with Section 21 of MMDR Act and Sections 180, 181, 192, 196 of MV Act.
