Bhubaneswar: Eligible citizens whose names are not included in the electoral roll can continue to apply for voter registration through Form-6 even after completion of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR)-2026 process in Odisha, officials said.
The Election Commission of India (ECI) has clarified that eligible persons seeking inclusion in the electoral roll after SIR-2026 will not have to furnish details related to the 2002 electoral roll while submitting Form-6.
The requirement will also not apply to cases where an eligible voter’s name was deleted from the electoral roll during the SIR exercise and the person subsequently seeks re-inclusion.
Applicants will not be required to provide information on whether their parents or grandparents figured in the 2002 electoral roll either. The ECI has removed the related additional declaration from Form-6, allowing eligible citizens to apply through the regular procedure without furnishing such details.
However, submission of Form-6 alone will not guarantee inclusion in the electoral roll. Electoral authorities will continue to verify the applicant’s eligibility, the information furnished in the application and the supporting documents before taking a decision on registration.
Officials said no name would be added to the electoral roll without completion of the prescribed verification process and compliance with applicable legal provisions and rules.
The existing mechanism for voter registration through Form-6 will continue, enabling eligible citizens who are not on the current electoral roll to apply for inclusion.
All applications will be scrutinised under the prescribed procedure with the aim of maintaining an accurate and error-free electoral roll while ensuring that all eligible citizens have an opportunity to register as voters.
