Bhubaneswar: In a ceremony held at the East Coast Railway (ECoR) headquarters, General Manager Parmeshwar Funkwal felicitated three railway employees for their exceptional vigilance and prompt actions that averted potential mishaps, ensuring the safety and integrity of train operations.
The honored employees demonstrated remarkable dedication and quick thinking in critical situations: Binod Bihari Behera, Station Master of Sitabinj, played a pivotal role in preventing a potential disaster on 15th November 2024. At 5:39 AM, while passing through the Sitabinj-Basantapur section, Behera noticed smoke emanating from the 22nd BOXNHL wagon of a train. Recognizing the overheated axle, he swiftly ensured the train was detached at Basantapur, averting further damage.
Damburu Gauda, Track Maintainer-IV of Gang No-51 at Therubali Railway Station, detected a weld failure on the down line during a night patrol on 23rd November 2024. His quick identification led to the immediate imposition of a 30 km/h speed restriction, preventing potential accidents. Gauda promptly reported the issue to the Junior Engineer and Station Manager, ensuring timely corrective measures.
Dhanunjaya Rao, Train Manager (Sr. Goods) at Rayagada, noticed smoke from a wagon wheel of a goods train at Baiguda on 17th November 2024. Identifying a hot axle on the 12th wagon, Rao took immediate action to control the situation, ensuring the safety of the train and its crew.
General Manager Funkwal praised the employees for their alertness and swift responses, emphasizing that such diligence is crucial for the smooth and safe operation of the railway network. He highlighted that the commitment of every railway employee directly contributes to passenger safety and operational efficiency.
Funkwal also urged all staff to remain vigilant and dedicated to their duties, reinforcing the importance of safety at every level of railway operations. The ceremony served as a reminder of the critical role played by frontline workers in maintaining the integrity of India’s vast railway network.
