Bhubaneswar: In a significant step towards strengthening railway security through advanced technology, the Railway Protection Force (RPF), East Coast Railway, has introduced DSC ARJUN (Dedicated Security Chassis Advanced Railway Junction Under Network Enabled Surveillance), an Artificial Intelligence (AI) powered robotic surveillance platform designed to enhance passenger safety, station security and operational efficiency.
The AI powered robotic security platform, DSC ARJUN, was unveiled in the presence of the General Manager, East Coast Railway, senior railway officials and Railway Protection Force (RPF) officers.
The introduction of DSC ARJUN marks another milestone in East Coast Railway’s efforts to build a smart, technology driven security ecosystem. Equipped with advanced Artificial Intelligence, Computer Vision, Machine Learning and Internet of Things (IoT) technologies, the intelligent robotic platform has been developed to support Railway Protection Force personnel in delivering more proactive, efficient and responsive security services.
The journey of robotic policing in Indian Railways began in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic, when Captain ARJUN was developed by Central Railway to assist in protecting frontline railway personnel. Building upon this pioneering initiative, East Coast Railway introduced the humanoid robot ASC ARJUN at Visakhapatnam Railway Station on 23rd January 2026. The newly developed DSC ARJUN represents the next stage in this technological evolution by integrating advanced AI enabled surveillance and analytics into a comprehensive railway security platform.
Designed as a force multiplier for the Railway Protection Force, DSC ARJUN is capable of round the clock surveillance and intelligent monitoring. Its advanced features include AI based facial recognition, real time crowd analytics, passenger head count, unattended baggage detection, suspicious activity detection, public address announcements, live video streaming and instant alert generation. These capabilities significantly enhance situational awareness, facilitate timely decision making and strengthen preventive and evidence based policing.
The robotic platform can be deployed across platforms, station concourses, booking offices, waiting halls, circulating areas, parking zones, parcel offices and other vulnerable locations requiring enhanced surveillance. Through continuous monitoring and intelligent analytics, DSC ARJUN assists RPF personnel in preventing crime, managing passenger movement during peak hours, protecting railway assets and responding effectively during emergencies such as fire, medical incidents and security related situations.
“Technology is redefining the future of railway security. DSC ARJUN is a significant step towards integrating Artificial Intelligence with railway policing to create a smarter, more responsive and technology driven security ecosystem. The platform will augment the capabilities of Railway Protection Force personnel, strengthen situational awareness, enable proactive security management and further enhance passenger confidence across East Coast Railway.”
By combining Artificial Intelligence with the professionalism and vigilance of Railway Protection Force personnel, the initiative represents another important milestone in building a safer, smarter, secure and passenger centric railway system, ensuring safer journeys for millions of passengers while safeguarding vital railway infrastructure.
