Jayapur: A 65-year-old man was allegedly murdered while sleeping outside his house in Koraput district, prompting police to launch a detailed investigation into the incident.
The deceased, identified as Lakshman Golari of Kaukund village under Chipakur Panchayat in Baipariguda block, was found with his throat slit in the courtyard of his residence on Saturday morning.
According to police, Golari was sleeping on a cot in the courtyard when unidentified miscreants allegedly attacked him with a sharp weapon late Friday night.
Family members discovered his body after waking up in the morning, triggering panic in the village. His son, Rati Golari, subsequently lodged a written complaint at the Baipariguda Police Station.
Acting on the complaint, police reached the spot, seized the body and initiated a preliminary investigation. A scientific team, assisted by sniffer dogs, examined the crime scene and collected forensic evidence to aid the investigation.
Police said the motive behind the murder is yet to be established. Investigators are probing all possible angles, including personal enmity, family disputes and other potential motives.
The body was sent for post-mortem examination and later handed over to the family.
Baipariguda Police Station Inspector-in-Charge Dambarudhar Batria said the exact motive and the identity of the accused would become clear after the investigation progresses.
The incident has created an atmosphere of fear and tension in Kaukund village and nearby areas, police said.
