Deogarh: Forest officials successfully rescued a one-month-old elephant calf that got trapped in a fishing net at Rengali Dam in Chasagurujanga Village under the Thianal Section of the Barkote range in the Deogarh Forest Division.
According to reports, the calf got entangled in a net while crossing the reservoir with its herd. On receiving information about the trapped animal, the forest department team immediately rushed to the site and carefully cut the net to free the young elephant.
Post-rescue, the calf is under medical care and is being closely monitored by forest department officials.
The department confirmed that the herd has been staying in the area for the past few days and the calf will now be protected until it safely rejoins the group.
