Bhubaneswar: A female elephant, aged around 8-10 years, was rescued after falling into an abandoned well in Narendrapur village under Barnapal block in Angul district, on Saturday evening.

The elephant, part of a herd that strayed from a nearby forest, slipped and got trapped in the well. Villagers alerted the Forest Department, and officials launched a rescue operation.

As the well was very narrow, the team used a JCB machine to widen the well’s opening. The team carefully created a slope to help the elephant climb out. The 45-minute operation was successful, and the elephant was freed without serious injury.
