Cuttack: Commissionerate Police arrested notorious criminal Mangu Maharana on Friday night after an encounter near the Sadar area of the city. The accused sustained a bullet injury on his leg after a fire exchange with police.
As per reports, Mangu was wanted in connection with a recent dacoity case in the Kandarpur area. The accused was absconding and a special team of police was looking for the criminals involved in the dacoity case.
Upon receiving information about Mangu, the special team went to intercept him. However, the accused opened fire at the police. In retaliation, the police also fired back. During the fire exchange, a bullet hit Mangu’s left thigh.
Police overpowered the accused with bullet injury and admitted him to the SCB Medical College and Hospital for treatment.
Notably, Mangu is a history-sheeter and involved in several dacoity cases, police informed.
