Bhubaneswar: A Special Vigilance Court in Dhenkanal on Thursday sentenced Laxman Dalei, a retired former Additional Tahasildar of Dhenkanal Sadar, to three years of rigorous imprisonment (RI) after convicting him in a bribery case. The court also imposed a fine of ₹50,000 on him.
According to an official press release, Odisha Vigilance had charge-sheeted Dalei under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018 for demanding and accepting a ₹30,000 bribe. The bribe was taken from a person to permit a truck carrying laterite stone from Indupur quarry to Athagarh.
Following his conviction, Odisha Vigilance will now approach the competent authority to stop Dalei’s pension.
