Bhubaneswar: The Confiscation Court (Authorised Officer, Special Court, Vigilance, Bhubaneswar) has ordered the confiscation of disproportionate assets valued at Rs 1,27,39,985 belonging to Prafulla Kumar Panigrahi, former Executive Engineer of Jonk Canal Irrigation Division, Nuapada.
The seized assets include immovable properties: a multi-storeyed building located at Tulasi Nagar, Berhampur, and three plots bearing numbers 252/4134, 247/4133, and 246/4132 at Rajendra Nagar Sahi, Tulasi Nagar, Berhampur, in Ganjam district.
Panigrahi was earlier charge-sheeted by Odisha Vigilance under Section 13(2) read with 13(1)(e) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, for possessing these assets disproportionate to his known sources of income. Following trial, he was convicted by the Special Judge, Special Court, Bhubaneswar, on March 31, 2014.
The recent confiscation order marks a key step in the vigilance department’s efforts to recover illegally amassed wealth from corrupt public servants. This development underscores Odisha Vigilance’s ongoing crackdown on disproportionate assets cases, ensuring accountability and deterrence among government officials.
