Bhubaneswar: In a significant anti-corruption verdict, Odisha Vigilance has secured the conviction of Pravati Swain, former Revenue Inspector (RI) of Sadangi Circle under Gondia Tahasil in Dhenkanal district.
Swain was today convicted by the Special Vigilance Judge, Dhenkanal in a bribery case. She was sentenced to undergo two years of rigorous imprisonment along with a fine for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 5,000.
According to the case details, Swain had demanded and taken the bribe from a complainant to submit the enquiry report required for issuance of a legal heir certificate in favour of his deceased mother. The case was registered under Section 13(2) read with 13(1)(d) and Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.
Following her conviction, Odisha Vigilance has stated that it will move the competent authority for the dismissal of Pravati Swain from government service.
