Bhubaneswar: The Commissionerate Police in Cuttack arrested a fake Police Inspector for duping job aspirants with promises of securing posts in the police department
Gundicha Dalai, a resident of Nuapatana village under Tigiria Police station in Cuttack, was caught with incriminating evidence, including a laptop, five mobile phones, fake identity cards, and uniform, police Cup, nameplate stars and logo along with rubber stamp and Cheque Books
The fake Inspector’s modus operandi involved posing as a Rural SP Office Inspector, convincing victims to pay hefty sums for job confirmations.
One such victim, Jitanshu Sekhar Parida of Mahanga, filed a complaint at Badambadi police station after being duped of Rs 2,10,000 for a Home Guard post. Parida alleged that Dalai wore a police uniform with three stars and flashed a forged identity card to gain his trust.
Acting on the complaint, the police launched an investigation and arrested Dalai. During interrogation, he confessed to the crime.
He was forwarded to court and investigation is underway further to identify other victims, Cuttack DCP Rishikesh Khilari said.
