Bhubaneswar: In a shocking incident, two persons, including a farmer and an elderly woman reportedly died after coming in contact with a live electric wire in Mahishapanda village under Simulia police station in Balasore district.
The deceased have been identified as Babuli Das, a local farmer, and Parbati Munda, an elderly woman from a nearby village.
According to reports, Babuli had set up an iron wire fence with a net around his paddy field yesterday to protect the crop from stray cattle. He had also electrified the wire for better security. Today morning, Babuli entered the field without disconnecting the electric connection. He accidentally came in contact with the live wire and began struggling. Seeing him in distress, Parbati, who lived nearby, rushed to help him. Unfortunately, she too came in contact with the live wire. Both Babuli and Parbati died on the spot.
Local residents immediately cut the live wire to disconnect the power supply and informed the fire service and 108 ambulance. Fire brigade personnel reached the spot and recovered the bodies from the field. The bodies were later sent to Simulia Community Health Centre for post-mortem.
The tragic incident has sent a wave of shock and grief in the area.
