Ganjam: Tension ran high at a rice mill following the death of a farmer under mysterious circumstances in Ganjam district, on Monday.

The deceased has been identified as Ganesh Bisoi, a resident of Chakundha village near Lembhakuta under Badagada police limits of Ganjam district.

As per reports, the incident occurred when the farmer had gone to sell his paddy to a mill. The mill authorities, however, had refused to accept the farmer’s paddy, citing its poor quality.

This led to an altercation, following which the farmer became unconscious and was rushed to the Badagada Community Health Centre. As his condition worsened, he was shifted to MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur where he was declared dead.

The family of the deceased farmer has alleged that the mill authorities’ refusal to accept the paddy led to his death. The police are currently investigating the matter.
