Jajpur: A fire broke out at a shop in Laxmi Market in Jajpur Road in the evening today. Two persons have sustained critical burn injuries in the fire.
According to reports, the fire broke out at Kiran Light House, a shop selling electrical and plastic items.
The shop’s owner Karunakar Das (48) and a customer Sanjay Kumar Pati (25) were severely injured in the fire.
They were rushed to the Government Hospital at Jajpur Road. After first aid, they were shifted to SCB Medical College & Hospital at Cuttack as their health condition deteriorated.
Fire tenders were pressed into service to douse the flames.
While the exact cause of the fire has not been ascertained, an electric short circuit is suspected to be the culprit.
Efforts were underway to contain the blaze at the time of filing of this report.
