Bhubaneswar: A fire erupted on a cargo ship, Eco Colonel Monorvia, at Paradip Port early Sunday morning. The incident occurred at 12:55 am while thermal coal was being loaded onto the ship via a conveyor belt at Chennai Radha berth.
The ship was shifted to the CQ-2 berth, and fire service personnel swung into action, sprinkling water on the hot coal to control the blaze. The fire was eventually doused at 2:10 am.
According to Paradip Port’s traffic manager, G Edison, the fire is suspected to have been caused by the lack of water sprinkling on the coal prior to loading. An investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of the incident.
