Kendrapada: Fire Service personnel rescued an ASHA worker who suffered a suspected heart attack after floodwaters cut off her village in Kendrapara district on Tuesday, ensuring she received timely medical attention.
The incident took place at Ghagaradia village under Kendrapada block, where ASHA worker Shantilata Majhi suddenly complained of severe chest pain and fell ill in the morning. As floodwaters had surrounded the village, an ambulance could not reach the affected area, making it difficult to shift her to a healthcare facility.
After receiving information about her condition, a nearby Fire Service team immediately launched a rescue operation. The personnel reached the village by power boat and safely evacuated Majhi from the inundated area.
She was subsequently taken to the Indupur Community Health Centre, located around seven kilometres away, where she received immediate medical treatment.
The timely intervention by the Fire Service personnel proved crucial in ensuring that the ailing ASHA worker reached the hospital despite the disruption caused by the floodwaters. The local Sarpanch praised the Fire Service team for its prompt response and rescue efforts.
