Jajpur: Fire service personnel rescued a pregnant woman experiencing labour pain from flood-hit Haldidiba village in Jajpur district and transported her to a hospital by boat after floodwaters snapped road communication, officials said.
The incident occurred on Tuesday in Haldidiba village under Binjharpur block, where floodwater inundated the area and disrupted communication with the outside world. The woman went into labour amid the difficult situation, leaving her family unable to take her to the hospital by road.
On receiving information about the emergency, personnel from the Binjharpur Fire Station promptly reached the affected area and launched a rescue operation.
The fire service team carefully evacuated the pregnant woman and transported her by boat for nearly three kilometres through the flooded stretch before taking her to the hospital for treatment.
The rescue operation drew appreciation from residents, with locals praising the fire service personnel for responding promptly to the medical emergency despite the challenging flood conditions.
Floodwaters continue to affect several parts of Odisha, with large numbers of villages inundated and communication disrupted in several areas. Fire service personnel have been engaged in rescue and evacuation operations in the affected regions, helping stranded people reach safer locations.
