Jayapur: Police have arrested five persons in connection with an alleged dacoity and assault on two families at a farmhouse near Damaput Parjaguda under Jeypore Sadar police station in Koraput district, an official said on Saturday.
The accused have been identified as Hari Bandhu Nag (66) of Damaput Parjaguda, Dhanapati Nag (35), Anit Kuldeep (30) and Papu Suna (20), all residents of Irrigation Colony, and Subas Harijan (21) of Mushalijaba village under Kundura police station, police said.
According to the complaint, the incident took place around midnight when five masked men allegedly entered the farmhouse and attacked Manu Jani (41), who had stepped outside the house. The assailants allegedly assaulted him, dragged him inside and tied him up.
They allegedly assaulted his wife and snatched gold ornaments from her ears and nose before fleeing with Rs 8,000 in cash and a mobile phone.
The accused subsequently allegedly called out a neighbouring family belonging to Tili Santa (34) and assaulted him, his wife and children after they came outside, the complaint stated. Gold ornaments were allegedly snatched from the family members, while Rs 5,000 in cash and a mobile phone were allegedly looted from their house.
The assailants also allegedly threatened the children with a knife and threatened to kill the family members, police said.
Following a written complaint lodged by Jani, Jayapur Sadar police registered a case under relevant sections and launched an investigation.
Police subsequently arrested the five accused and recovered the allegedly looted articles, Jayapur Sadar police station officer Sachandra Pradhan said.
The arrested persons were later forwarded to court, he added.
