Bhadrak: Police on Saturday arrested five persons in connection with the alleged kidnapping of a minor girl from Baghanata village under Chandabali police station limits in Bhadrak district.
The accused have been identified as Chandan Nayak of Bangriposhi village in Mayurbhanj district, along with Amar Majhi, Prakash Parida, Ashok Das, and Rakesh Sethi. Police said Chandan Nayak is the prime accused in the case and had been working as a tractor driver in Baghanata village for the past few years.
According to police, the case was registered after the victim’s father lodged a complaint at Chandabali police station. Following the complaint, Case No. 207/2026 was registered and an investigation was initiated.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the accused had earlier developed a one-sided affection towards the minor girl, which reportedly led to a dispute. The matter was said to have been settled locally at the time. However, on May 24, 2026 (Sunday), the minor girl was allegedly kidnapped, prompting the family to approach the police again.
Acting on the complaint, police launched a probe, detained the accused, and subsequently arrested all five persons. The accused were later forwarded to court, while further investigation is underway.
