Bhubaneswar: In a significant breakthrough, the Plantsite police on Sunday arrested five persons who were allegedly plotting a robbery in Rourkela.
Acting on a tip-off, the police team conducted a swift raid and recovered deadly weapons from the suspects.
The arrested persons have been identified as Rohit Singh (22), Abhay Chaudhary (26), Shambhu Ram (24), S.K. Taj (19), and Nitesh Kumar Sahu (20). All are residents of Rourkela.
According to police, on the intervening night of Saturday, reliable information was received regarding suspicious activity near Congress Bhawan, B-8, Sector-21. A team led by Sub-Inspector B.B. Khatei immediately launched a surprise operation in the area.
During the raid, police seized a machete, a knife, and an iron rod from the suspects. The accused were reportedly preparing to use these weapons to target nearby houses, shops, and petrol pumps. Swift action by the police led to the immediate arrest of the accused.
