Baripada: Artificial intelligence-enabled cameras (IR cameras) and Infrared Trap Cameras installed across Similipal South Wildlife Division played a crucial role in busting a five-member poachers’ gang.
Acting on a tip-off, officials from Jenabil Wildlife Range, led by the Range Officer, raided Jadidar village on December 9 and nabbed five poachers, who were found in possession of prohibited items, including a handmade gun, snares, and wild boar meat.
The seized items include two torches, seven snares, a gun barrel, 535 grams of dried wild boar meat, and a polythene sheet allegedly used for preparing gunpowder. A loaded handmade gun was also recovered from a bushy area near the accused’s house.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Barsing Ho (33), Charan Ho (43), Chhale Ho (23), Sagar Ho (29) and Sukra Ho (32), all residents of Jadidar village. They have been charged with violating the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972, and will face trial before the Baripada CJM Court.
