Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi said that the flood situation in Odisha’s Balasore continues to be grim. “The state government is taking all possible measures to speed up rescue and relief operations in the affected areas,” Majhi said after an aerial survey of the flood-affected areas of the district on Wednesday.

The Chief Minister said that flash floods due to the water level in Subarnarekha river crossing the danger level has inundated several areas of Balasore district. Heavy rainfall during the past 3-4 days due to deep depression has worsened the situation.

As many as six blocks and 8,000 hectares have been inundated, while 35 gram panchayats in three blocks have been affected due to the floods, Majhi told the media after the aerial survey today.

So far, the Balasore district administration has evacuated 2,000 people from low-lying areas and sheltered them at various places. All these people are being provided with cooked food. In addition, eight teams of Fire Services, three teams of ODRAF and one team of NDRF have been deployed in the villages that are cut-off from the remaining world.
