Bhubaneswar: Forest department officials on Friday arrested five poachers who were absconding and against whom NBW was issued by the Court.
According to an official press release, the accused persons were arrested early in the morning today by the staff of Similipal South Division staff and forwarded to the court for remand into judicial custody.
These poachers namely Padhan Badra, Laxman Badra, Sanatan Birua from Village Kandibil, Laga Laduri from village Bhaliagoda, and Berega Badra for village Khejuri under Jashipur police station were directly involved in hunting of a male elephant during November 2023 in National Park Wildlife Range, Similipal South Wildlife division.
In this case a total of 16 accused have been forwarded to judicial custody till date.
During house search a Sambar Deer antler was seized from possession of the accused Lada Laguri.
Further investigation is going on.
