Bhubaneswar: In a significant anti-corruption development, Odisha Vigilance has secured the conviction of Kartikeswar Sahu, former Soil Conservation Officer of Purunakatak in Boudh district in a disproportionate assets case.
Sahu, who has now retired, was charge sheeted by Vigilance under Section 13(2) r/w 13(1)(e) of Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 for possessing disproportionate assets beyond his known sources of income.
Hearing the case on August 31, the Special Vigilance Judge, Phulbani convicted Sahu and sentenced him to undergo rigorous imprisonment for a period of 1 year and to pay a fine of Rs 50,000.
Following the conviction, Odisha Vigilance will now move the competent authority for stoppage of pension of the retired officer.
