Bhubaneswar: Senior Biju Janata Dal (BJD) leader and former legislator Ayub Khan breathed his last at his residence at Kantabanji in Balangir district. He was not well for past few days. The news of his demise was confirmed by his son, Dr Amjad Ali Khan.
Ayub Khan was a prominent political figure in the Nuapada and Kantabanji region. He played a crucial role in strengthening the organisational base of the Biju Janata Dal in western Odisha. He was elected as an Independent MLA from 2004 to 2009 and later served as a BJD MLA from 2014 to 2019.
Known for his organisational skills and commitment to public service, Khan contributed significantly to the development of the region.
Expressing deep sorrow over the passing of the veteran leader, BJD Supremo took to his X handle and wrote: “I am deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Ayub Khan, senior organizer of the Biju Janata Dal and former legislator from Kantabanji. In his absence, the party has lost a skilled organizer and compassionate leader. The work he has done for the development of the region and the service of the people will forever immortalize him. In this hour of grief, after speaking with his son Dr Amjad Ali Khan, I extended my deepest condolences to the entire family and prayed for the eternal peace of his departed soul.”
The demise of Ayub Khan has left a void in the BJD and the local political landscape.
